Wooo Hooo
user_icon   We've been really surprised at what we waste, both money (on QT stops & fast food), as well as wasting left overs that we don't eat.  So, we have a family meeting planned for this week to discuss the changes we can make.  Also this is a GREAT week . . . Reagan starts his orientation today!!!!  Thank God!!!  He's sooo very excited.  It has been so hard to see him working so hard at his 2nd job (he is a Kansas High School Sports Official for basketball, soccer, & volleyball).  It became his primary job, so he has been working every day there are games available & I worried about his health & over doing it.  So, this is definitely a blessed day.

You never know what's around the corner.....
user_icon   Well we've had a rough couple of weeks.  Reagan couldn't log into his blog account so we missed a posting and I was severely distracted.  My mother passed away on the 28th of January and we were kind of thrown into a spin.  We definitely had a complicated relationship - there being alcoholism, divorce, and bankruptcy through my childhood years.  I thank God every day for not burdening me, my husband and my kids with alcoholism. It's a hard thing to go through.  Both Reagan and I took our vows very seriously and for us, in our minds, divorce can't and won't be an option (besides I don't think anyone could put up with us but us). And by the grace of God, CACU, Leslie, and Tim, I'm starting to think bankruptcy won't be in our future.  That is one cloud we don't want over our kids.  Our boys are really on board and have some great ideas.  Nathan and Jacob (he couldn't be there for the photo shoot) have worked their schedules around in order to be at the work/learning sessions.  I think it will be an amazing GIFT for them to know  HOW to start out in life and maybe not make the same mistakes we made, although Hurricane Katrina did play her own special part, we have to take responsibility for ours too. Tim and Leslie had a great idea that we didn't know could be done, to borrow against my 401K retirement through my employer at the University of Kansas Hospital and pay off a lot of small things in order to have one lower payment.  I hope to know something the first of the week.  As for our youngest Tyler, he still has to be reminded often why the McD's run throughs can't be in our plan and that all we can save by eating at home will help us toward a family vacation.  One other problem we are working toward solving is getting a new transmission in Reagan's truck. It's hard to get 4 adults going in 4 different directions with only 2 cars.  Well, stay tuned for more to come.

Getting started
user_icon   I feel like we've gotten off to a really bad start. First of all, we are probably in the top ten in the world for being a dysfunctional family. Michelle and all 3 boys are ADHD. I wish you knew what being the only non ADHD person in the house is like. I'm not sure our money coaches, Leslie and Tim, quite have a grip on the family dynamics just yet.

But, wow, let's look at what's happened this week. Michelle's mom passed away (that's a whole other story that I could write a book about, much less a blog), our basement got flooded with 2 inches of raw sewage, all this at the height of basketball and volleyball season. Nathan's and Jacob's bedrooms are in the basement, by the way. In my referee job I've been slammed which is great, but I'm always tired and rarely at home.

On the bright side, Tim and Leslie have come up with some absolutely incredible ideas, things that  I didn't even think were possible. The class this past Saturday was really great, extremely useful. Jacob, our 18 year old, seems to be coming on board.

We are dysfunctional, but if we can learn to work together for a common purpose, well then, it's the solution to a lot of our issues!

Here we go....
user_icon   Reagan & I decided that we would both blog at times. We know that others are in the same shape we are so hopefully this will let everyone see both perspectives. We had our 1st session on Thursday with Leslie, one of our coaches.  Tim wasn't able to be there due to a prior commitment but we'll see him on the 4th at our next session.  My emotions & feelings leading up to the session ran the gamut--excited, scared, hopeful, nervous, motivated, nauseated.  I think it was facing the "unknown".  My fear was that they would look at where we are financially & probably tell us there is no hope.  But guess what? Turns out there is a lot of hope & a lot that can be accomplished in the 10 months of this Makeover.  Sitting in the Credit Union looking across the desk at Leslie, it hit me-God had sent the perfect 2 people into our lives.  Hearing her talk about the plan she & Tim had for us-all of a sudden a feeling of hope surrounded us.  I then knew that if we would work the plan, then the plan could work.  I can't wait till the 4th . . . more to come later.
