T-Bones game

Jason, Kia and the boys all came to our group meeting that was held at our T-Bone suite in July. For the meeting another coach put together a taste testing activity where we tried to taste the difference between name brand and Hy-Vee brand foods. This activity was to show the difference in taste but also in cost. The savings was over $7.00 with 5 different types of foods, which is huge.

Jason was asked to share some things he has learned since being in this contest. Jason stated how important it has been to pay off their debt and what a financial relief it has been to start an emergency fund. He is thinking about the future and hopefully will be able to ladder CD’s at some point. Jason and Kia are still working towards their goals, which are to pay off their last credit card with CommunityAmerica and to pay Kia’s auto loan off by the end of the contest. They are still committed to having a savings account balance of around $1000.00. Both Kia and Jason are very committed and are doing a great job.

Second Half Goals
user_icon   At our last Financial Makeover meeting we revisited the three highest priorities that the Robinson’s had written down at the beginning of the contest. The three priorities were to build up savings, long term planning, and reduce the number of credit cards. After going over this with the Robinsons we were able to check off all three. Kia and Jason have built up their emergency savings to at least $1000.00. They have paid off 8 credit cards and only have one left with Bank of America. And Jason has started a Roth IRA.

We talked about what their next key focuses were going to be for the last half of the contest. The next goal is to pay off their last credit card. That balance is being transferred to a CommunityAmerica Credit Card, which will save them significantly on the interest rate. Secondarily, they're going to start paying extra toward Kia’s car loan. And finally, they are in a position to start saving for a house. Since Jason was able to pay off his car loan in June, and found a way to save $40.00 a month on their cell phone bill they will be able to put this extra money toward these other goals.

I am so proud of Jason and Kia and how they have really changed their financial lifestyle. I'm so thankful to be able to help such a great family.

Sprinting to the finish line.

I met Jason last week for lunch near his office. We had a good conversation about the trials he and Kia are going through, and I find myself identifying with him more and more. He and Kia have two young sons; my wife and I have 3 young boys. It's fair to say that we ALL like going to the lake come summertime. Raising a family can be a pricey proposition, and it is challenging given so many demands for our re$ource$.

This is one of the reasons I've been so impressed with Jason and Kia's efforts in this contest.  They have shown dedication that, to me, is simply incredible. From paying off credit cards and car loans, to helping Wesley and Brisyn understand money, to Kia's determination in college - they have what it takes to win. As the summer comes and goes, and the contest heads to its conclusion this fall, Jason and Kia are sprinting to the end.

I can't wait to see the finish.

Goals

Since this Financial Makeover contest is a life-changing event, sometimes we have to regroup and make sure that we are staying on the path of what the families are wanting to accomplish. When meeting with Kia and Jason last month we were able to reset some attainable short-term goals to help them get where they want to be financially. Jason and Kia have committed to a minimum savings deposit goal for each month, and to pay off one of their cars by either June or July. Again these are huge strides in their financial portfolio. As the months go on, we'll have Jason and Kia set some new short term goals to help give them continued focus over time.
