Dreams Can Come True
user_icon   Bridgid opened her “Driscoll School Of Irish Dance” last week. This had been a long-term dream of theirs that finally came true, in part to their dedication to the “Financial Makeover” process. With a dream and her business plan in place, the doors opened!

Much of the work has been done by them with the help of family and friends. Assistance with business cards, fliers, web site, www.kcirishdance.com and much more helped get her business off the ground. It has not been easy, but with focus and determination Bridgid and Jim are living the dream. They told me that eliminating most of their credit card debit has been like getting a raise. There’s a snowball effect that happens when you start paying things off. If you’ve been budgeting every month, and following that budget, eventually that debt disappears. And no more monthly payments means more dollars for savings, investments, or “Making Dreams Come True.” And I love seeing that happen!

Buckling Down
user_icon   I have never had a Makeover family that was as focused as Bridgid and Jim. Every month they are making significant strides to reduce debt and increase savings. They both have that “CAN DO” attitude. The contest is half over and they want to sprint to the finish line. Jim & Bridgid said that “If we get that military BOOT CAMP attitude, we can make some huge changes that will positively affect the rest of our lives. We met with Brian Geary the VP of Business Services here at CommunityAmerica, and he gave Bridgid some good ideas about putting together a business plan for her Irish Dance school. Brian offered to continue working with her to get the plan all polished up. So, when she is ready to get started she will know exactly financially what she will need to do to help her succeed. She would like to get it open and going this year. They do have a small budget leak, “The Summer Wedding” of some friends. This is the type of leak that cannot be avoided. However there are ways to be frugal. One is, do not stay at the wedding event hotel. These are usually the nicer, more expensive place to stay and there always seems to be a less expensive hotel nearby. Driving to the locale instead of flying, if that is an option, is another way to avoid piling on the expenses.

Change is NOT easy.
user_icon   Change is never easy, “YOU GOTTA WANTA”. This is my 3rd year doing the Financial Makeover and this year is no different. Jim & Bridgid are no different. The first couple of months it's slow to start implementing change, but Jim & Bridgid are fully on board now. Bridgid has taken over the task of the bill payment & rationing out the dollars, and she's a tough task master. Her dream is to open an Irish dance studio. You see, Bridgid is a licensed Irish Dance Instructor, as in certified by a commission in Ireland. Not an easy accomplishment. I went down to the Power & Light District St. Patrick’s day to watch her perform at Raglan Road Irish Pub. She and three other girls would dance while the Irish bands would go on break. WOW, what a work out Irish dancing is. I was really impressed, especially with Bridgid, however I am biased. They all did a wonderful job. I also had the chance to meet Bridgid’s mother who was busy filming the girls dance, a very nice lady. After watching Bridgid dance I can tell she is passionate and has the "wanta" to accomplish her dreams. It's going to be an honor to help she and Jim get down that path.
